Are You Dumb?

Seriously, are you dumb?

are you dumbNot winning any friends with that title am I?

And you’re probably not going to like this article either. I’ll just warn you now.

Can I be brutally honest with you for a moment?

Not fluffy “you have something on your face” kind of honesty, but smack you upside the head with a 2×4 kind of honesty.

I don’t like doing it. (and I sure don’t like getting it from others – initially at least).

And I can almost guarantee you will NOT enjoy it.

The news out of the US today about the Government shutting down prompted me to write this, because I think it’s important.

The problems you may be having financially aren’t getting any better soon – unless you step up and do something about them!

You know how you’ve been struggling to get ahead? Tried everything, and it’s just not working right?

Well, it’s not because you haven’t been given any opportunities. It’s not because you don’t know where to start. It’s not because weren’t blessed with a silver spoon in your mouth. (most millionaires weren’t)

It’s because you’re dumb.

And if you ever want a chance in hell of achieving financial freedom, you’d better smarten up.

Did I really just call you “dumb?”

Yes, I did. Sorry.

Granted, you might be part of the minority who’s already financially free and making a ton of money and is really and truly brilliant. If that’s the case, consider yourself excused from this “Come to Jesus” meeting.

The rest of you though?

This is not a ruse where DUMB turns out to be a clever acronym for something far less offensive. The truth is, I’m calling you out, and I’m doing it out of love.

Because you see, everyone has been lying to you. Including me.

We teach you wealth strategies. We dole out investing tips. We give you a pep talk and make you believe maybe you can really become the next entrepreneur superstar.

But honestly?

There’s one really big thing we’ve been leaving out. Here it is:

The System Is Rigged Against You

Ever been to Vegas?

There’s a prime example of a system designed to pull the money right out of your pocket.

Well, I’m sorry to say, but our western financial systems are much the same.

Sure there’s the minority who’ve carved out a nice piece of the pie for themselves, but for the majority of people life consists of paycheck to paycheck and just getting by.

How’s that working for you so far?

So, it’s time to ask yourself the question…

Which group do you belong to?

Or even more importantly, which group do you want to belong to?

The truth about building wealth

There have been a number of times throughout history when massive fortunes were created – and at the same time the majority of the population was wiped out.

I believe we’re facing one of those periods right now.

I’m not a conspiracy theorist, I’ve just done my homework.

You can put your head in the sand and say everything is fine, but don’t agree.

Just take a look at a few of the warning signs that have been flashing the past few years:

  • The housing bubble burst and the stock market crash in 08/09
  • Entire nations going bankrupt in Europe
  • Citizens’ money confiscated in Cypress banks
  • US debt ceiling hit and raised repeatedly
  • Federal Reserve QE programs and printing $85 billion dollars per month indefinitely
  • the Arab Spring, Syrian crisis and other middle east unrest

These are all indications that something isn’t right. And you can pull the blanket up over your head and pretend everything will be fine, or you can do something to protect yourself.

If you no longer want to be part of the herd and want to take control of your life you need to start now.

You have to decide you want it, and then take the necessary steps. For example:

1) Replace your friends

I told you this would be painful, right?

Well, here’s some more brutal honesty:

If you want to grow, you almost always have to replace your friends. No, you don’t have to insult them or drive them away, but simply stop spending as much time with them as you used to.

Why?

As Jim Rohn famously said, “You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” There’s no scientific evidence I know of to support him, but pretty much any successful person will tell you it’s true.

And chances are your friends are programmed to follow the old systems. If you want to break free, you’ve got to find some new friends.

2) Become a know-it-all (in a good way)

Ever seen the movie The Edge?

Anthony Hopkins plays a billionaire who seems to know… well… everything. No one can ask him a question he doesn’t know the answer to.

Well, wealthy people are kind of like that.

No, they don’t know everything, but they know enough about history, and wealth cycles to position themselves ahead of the wave, instead of missing it completely and getting crushed in the breakers.

Here’s why:

They’re learning. Constantly.

To use myself as an example…

  • I listen to an interview with a brilliant person every chance I get.
  • During lunch, I read Success magazine or something similar to feed my mind
  • I stopped watching TV years ago, and never watch or listen to the news
  •  I attend seminars and events regularly to learn from mentors
  • While I’m in the car, I listen to books on tape, and audio interviews
  • I read books on personal development, investing and business instead of novels

And the crazy thing?

Amongst other entrepreneurs, I’m not abnormal. Yes, everyone has different routines, but each and every successful person I’ve met has similar habits.

It’s not just an idiosyncrasy. It’s required.

In today’s world, going to school, learning a few things, and then coasting through your life without reading another book is a death wish. You’ll be stuck in a mediocre existence with no hope.

The opposite is also true. If you spend more time learning than anyone else, before you know it, everyone thinks you’re a genius. You’ll be able to help others break free too, which is more rewarding than doing it for yourself ever was.

Spend a couple hours a day learning something new. I don’t care how or when you do it. Just make sure you do.

The bottom line

You know you want better for yourself and your family.

I know you can do it – but only after you DECIDE to.

If you want to succeed, you have to change. Surround yourself with smart people, bury yourself in books, and cut all the crap out of your life that’s distracting you.

Decide to be one of the few that changes their families future.

Are you ready to be that person?

Or are you going to be just another dumbass with a job you hate?

The choice is yours.
